The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 – Guide 5: Training

This TAEN guide describes how the Age Regulations apply to vocational training and sets out some of the uncertainties that are giving rise to debate.

The guide covers the definition of vocational training which, under the Regulations, include both training and guidance. It discusses public policy and employer exemptions on training and considers the controversial issue of the current age-based funding of training. It provides the background to the Government’s interpretation of EU law and its decision to exempt the funding regime for adult learning from the scope of the Regulations.

The guide provides details of the age limits for Government funding of training and the case for potential challenges by individuals against agencies and providers obliged to administer Government policy.
