The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 – Guide 1: Scope – do they apply to you?

This TAEN guide provides a broad description of the Regulations: how they apply to employment and vocational training and to whom they apply. It also provides information on what the Regulations do not include within their scope.

The guide covers the absence of age limits within the legislation and the reservations which relate to recruitment, unfair dismissal, and training and learning. It explains the difference between direct and indirect discrimination and gives examples of victimisation and harassment, both of which come within the scope of the Regulations. It covers the definition of ‘age’, ‘workers’ and ‘employment’ and describes what the Regulations do not cover It explains how the Regulations differ from other discrimination laws in relation to the absence of a public duty to promote age equality.
